Planning for the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC) began in 2016 with the goal of expanding existing outpatient services. This planning resulted in moving the entire project to a new site in North Liberty, IA. The new 469,000 square-foot hospital is envisioned as having two wings. The 300,000 sf hospital wing will house up to 48 beds, 21 emergency care rooms, 16 operating rooms, two more procedure rooms, laboratories, a pharmacy and other public and medical amenities. Connected in a āVā shape, the 169,000 sf academic and clinic wing will provide faculty office, education and research space. Together with the new hospital, the North Liberty campus will serve as an extension of the main UI Health Care campus in Iowa City that includes both hospital and College of Medicine buildings.
