Blank Children's Star & Development Center
The first of its kind in Iowa, Blank Children’s STAR Center is a 28,000 square foot structure that provides a space to care for children who have been victims of abuse, exposed to drugs, are in the foster care system, or need extra support to grow and thrive. The goal of the new facility was to have a distinct tie-in to Blank Children’s Hospital. With the ever-changing colored exterior, made possible by interference stainless steel on angled exterior walls, the facility offers an identifiable and special place for patients and their families. The Devevelopment Center provides an indiviudual space to diagnosis and treat children with developmental, behavioral and physical conditions. As the needs of the STAR Center patients differ from the Development Center patients, each floor was designed and designated for each individual center. Continuous ribbon windows and a large curtain wall were designed with the intention of providing both employees and patients with natural light which improves mood and productivity.
